Autonomous fire detectors (API) are no longer new today. Many people know about them. But knowing does not mean understanding. Alas, there is still a dangerous misconception.: "A fire will happen anywhere, but not at my place. We don't drink, we don't smoke, we're safe."
The facts that make you think
Numbers speak louder than words.
— Last year, 67 people, including 14 children, were rescued in the republic thanks to the piercing signal of the detector.
— In three months of 2026, 46 people were rescued, including 8 children.
How does this device work?
An API is not a complicated alarm system with a remote control and wires. This is an autonomous "watchman" that:
1. It does not require an outlet — it runs on a regular Crown battery for up to a year or longer.
2. Feels even a faint smoke — long before the appearance of an open fire.
3. It emits a powerful intermittent sound (from 85 dB) that will wake up even a sound sleeper..
Simply put: while you sleep, the API monitors security.
Where and how to install it?
It's easier than hanging a shelf. You don't need any special knowledge. The kit includes instructions, and the installation itself takes a couple of minutes:
— Place: on the ceiling in every living room (except the kitchen, the device will give a lot of false alarms there). It is better to be a little closer to the window or door, where there is air flow.
— Bracing: We screwed down the pad, inserted the detector and turned it clockwise until it clicked.
— Care: regularly blow the dust out of the optical grid with a cold blow dryer (or vacuum cleaner). And change the battery in time — the device itself will warn you about the discharge with a short beep.
Cost of life versus cost of battery
The main argument that they like to postpone "for later": the price. An autonomous fire detector costs about 20 rubles.
A fire destroys everything: repairs, appliances, memory, a house. One minute of delay, and the bill goes not to rubles, but to human lives.
According to current social protection programs, certain categories of citizens, such as single and lonely pensioners, the disabled, large families and families where children are recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation, can be notified free of charge.
If the API has worked
First of all, we need to assess the situation. Check the household for smoke. It is believed that a person can independently cope with a fire in an area no larger than a soccer ball. If it was not possible to extinguish the fire within 1 minute, immediately call rescuers by 101 or 112, and then follow the dispatcher's instructions carefully.
Remember: An API is not a waste of money. This is the cheapest and most reliable insurance against the biggest disaster.
