Representatives of the republican unitary enterprise "Special Communications", headed by Alexander Alyoshkevich, head of the Gomel Special Communications Workshop, honored the memory of the liberators of the Great Patriotic War by laying flowers at the Mass Grave on Labor Square and took part in the unveiling of the monument to Marshal of Victory, legendary commander Konstantin Rokossovsky on Vosstaniya Square.
Gomel became the first regional center of Belarus to be liberated during the Gomel-Rechitsa offensive, with almost 720,000 soldiers and officers taking part in its liberation. The 829 days of the Nazi occupation ended on November 26, 1943. Of the approximately 147 thousand pre-war population, less than 15 thousand people remained in the city. The city was in ruins. The enemy was destroying all the buildings with some kind of animal malice. The regional center was able to begin its revival almost from the ashes. This date is actually Gomel's second birthday. Victory in the Great Patriotic War is our pride and our greatest legacy., -Alexander Alyoshkevich emphasized.
